Susan River Homestead Adventure

While we’re exploring the Fraser Coast (Hervey Bay, Maryborough and surrounds) we need to make mention of this fantastic property owned by the McLean family! Located on the road between Maryborough and Hervey Bay, the Resort is a sprawling 1600 acre cattle property with dams and bushland.

Horse Riding

If horse riding is your ‘thing’ or you want to take a leisurely trail ride on a solid horse, then book your camper into Susan River Homestead for the weekend and enjoy other activities such as tennis, trampoline, swimming or water sports. With at least 60 horses of gentle nature, all ages and abilities are catered to. Each month, a night ride occurs where the team of horses will take riders under the starlight to an entrée of soup and garlic bread around a campfire (tip: weather permitting). Enjoy meals back at the Homestead in the family dining room. The Resort is very popular for weddings and receptions; conferences and trade functions; as well as day trippers. There is motel style, air conditioned accommodation available. The two hour trail rides are twice a day, with refreshments on the banks of Susan River, leaving the stables at 9.30am and 2pm.

Water Sports

The 17 acre lake sees water skiing, knee boarding, wake boarding, tubing or parasailing as great family based water sport activities. The lake is available for hire for jet ski riding – please go to the Susan River Homestead website for all details on all activities plus accommodation and dinner pricing.

Close to Hervey Bay

If you decide to camp at Susan River Homestead, then Hervey Bay and Maryborough are only 15 minutes away in either direction. You can have the best of both worlds, and explore the beaches or the historic township of Maryborough on the banks of the Mary River during your camping trip. The possibilities of camping are endless on the Fraser Coast, which enjoys mild winters and hot summers – perfect for campfires or swimming depending on the time of year! Don’t forget the whale watching season runs from July to November each year, where you will see the Humpback Whales using the protected waters around Fraser Island as they teach their calves to be.. well whales! The Bay is just magic and not too far from Brisbane/South East Queensland to have a few nights away from home.
